Jesmond is the most desirable suburbs of Newcastle upon Tyne and is situated on the doorstep of the city centre. It's a sought-after place to live, for families, young professionals, and students.
Jesmond is fast becoming one of the places to be, with the right mix of popular restaurants, bars, hotels, schools, shops, and other local attractions. And we have numerous clients and friends who already live in Jesmond, why not take the plunge and move there?
The population is around 12,000; however, when the students are in town, it seems like a lot more. And the average age ranges from 18 to 59 years old.

Where to Buy Property in Jesmond
There are also several new and recent apartment developments, either within converted buildings or purpose built. These include Regency Court and Sovereign Courts off Jesmond Road, Connaught Mews, and St George Mews near West Jesmond Metro, Adderstone Court off Adderstone Crescent, and the upmarket St Mary's Court and La Sagesse. The remainder comprise classic Victorian Tyneside flats, or converted terraced Victorian properties, with upstairs-downstairs apartments.
Some people think you should buy properties close to Osborne Road; however, we would suggest somewhere away from the hustle and bustle if you intend to live there as it can be rowdy during some weekday evenings with students in term time, and even busier at the weekend. Such properties, however, would be ideal for buy-to-let investments.

Large swathes of properties in Jesmond are currently rented out to students and young professional comprising Tyneside flats and multiple-occupancy terraced properties. These areas include the streets between Manor House Road and Queens Terrace, and from West Jesmond Metro Station, in a northerly direction, towards Osborne Road. The majority of the tyneside flats on the streets to the west of Brentwood Avenue, near West Jesmond station, and those near Ilford Road Metro Station between Lodore Road and Honister Avenue are also rental properties.

Parking is often congested on the terraced streets dominated by tyneside flats and houses let out as multiple occupancy properties. Typically on these streets permits are required to park, and each property can usually only acquire two residents parking permits. Those without the resident or guest permits are unable to park on these streets during specified times. Parking is also limited in the car parks linked to the apartment developments.

The majority of the recent sales in the area in 2019 have comprised apartments and flats, typically with 2 or more bedrooms, selling for an average price of over £220,000 and ranging between £150,000 and £395,000, with occasional ones in more exclusive developments selling for between £600,000 and £700,000.
In 2017 terraced properties sold for an average of £358,000, and in 2019 prices vary between £300,000 and £925,000, depending upon the location.
Semi-detached properties sell for prices between £365,000 and £657,000, with an average price of around £490,500.
Detached properties and townhouses do not come on the market very often in Jesmond and are typically priced between £700,000 and £3,000,000, with the more exclusive properties situated near Jesmond Dene, on streets such as Lindisfarne Close.
For those that can't afford the prices, maybe consider looking further afield in Gosforth, Jesmond Vale, Sandyford, High Heaton or Heaton. Gosforth property prices can be up to 15% cheaper. Prices are also lower in Jesmond Vale, just be careful where you look as there are some less desirable areas down.
Heaton and Sandyford may be cheaper, but they are also less desirable places to live. Check them out, and you will see the difference.
What does Jesmond have to Offer?
Looking for a restaurant?
Francesca's
on Manor House Road is a long established down-to-earth, relaxed Italian venue that serves up classic Italian dishes. Nothing fancy and reasonably priced. I've been here numerous times over the years.
Be careful where you park; some of the bays are reserved for residents during certain times, whereas others are for clientele who frequent the restaurant and local shops. Don't ruin your night by getting a parking fine. I've seen it happen way too many times. Be prepared to queue during buy time! When it is, we usually pop over to Sale Pepe up the road.
Sale Pepe
is another traditional Italian restaurant nearby on Osborne, located on St George's Terrace, with a few parking spaces nearby. They also do prosecco meal deals for the ladies with unlimited prosecco for 2 hours!
Fratelli's
is a bit more of a sophisticated and modern restaurant, located on Jesmond Road (A1058). Santana
is one more Italian venue worthy of mention. For those looking for something more familiar, Pizza Express
resides on Osborne Road.
If you fancy a gourmet burger, make a pitstop at Fat Hippo
on St. George's Terrace, near Acorn Road. Love the cheese-laden baked nachos and the burgers served up here!
For Gastropubs on Osborne Road; consider venturing into 97 and social, JamJar, Billabong, Sohe
which serve some fantastic dishes together with cocktails and IPA. During term-times, expect to find crowds of lively students hanging out.
I love Mexican and Latin American Food. El Paso Bar and Grill
on Osbourne Road is the perfect place to visit if you feel the same way. The chefs serve up some great-tasting authentic dishes.
You are spoilt for choice if you fancy a coffee and a quick bite to eat. There are several scattered around Osborne Road and Acorn Road as well as all the little clusters of shops present throughout the suburb. My personal favourites near Acorn Road are Starbucksand Caffè Nero.
Cafe Bar One
on Jesmond Road gets my seal of approval, primarily because of the amazing breakfasts they serve up.
Kitsch'n
cafe diner on Acorn Road serves up great coffee and breakfasts and has a range of healthy juices, sandwiches, salads, and scrummy home-made cakes.
Several more are located on Clayton road to the south, towards Jesmond Metro Station, where most of the schools are located.
So you fancy a drink and don't know where to go in Jesmond
The favourite bars for the students and young professionals on Osborne Road include Spy, 97 & Social
and Bar Blanc. Holy Hobo, in nearby Jesmond 360, with late night drinking until 2am, is also geared towards resident students and young professionals.
If you fancy more traditional quiet bars serving up real ales and traditional pub grub, pop into the Blue Bell
in Jesmond Vale, the Collingwood Arms
and Dun Cow
in the Brandling Village, or the Carriage
next to Jesmond 360. If you do feel a bit peckish just bear in mind that the Carriage only serves up vegan food, luckily there is an indian restaurant next door.
As You Like It, situated next to Jesmond 360, is one of my fave choices. It's a multi-level venue with an outdoor terrace, catering for wining, dining and enjoying a good night out with friends. I love the live bands they put on here! It's a great place for booking tables or a private room, whether you're celebrating or just socialising with friends and family.
If you like craft beers or drinking in fantastic surroundings, walk across the Exhibition Park and have a tipple in The Wylam Tap, a local Micro Brewery that resides at the iconic Palace of Arts building. They regularly host music gigs and themed nights in the main function room, ranging from orchestral music, pop icons stars from a bygone era, dance music, and soul events.

Jesmond Dene, one of the hidden gems in Newcastle, is a narrow wooded valley that follows the river Ouseburn from South Gosforth and Jesmond Vale. The Dene is a unique haven of peace and tranquillity for locals to enjoy, whether you want to go for a walk, explore the ruins, watch the wildlife like red squirrels, visit the animals in Pet's Corner and enjoy an ice cream, or simply relax. This sprawling park is dotted with woodland, bridges, lawned grassed expanses, waterfalls and pools along the Ouseburn, a tributary of the River Tyne.
Nearby is Newcastle Town Moor, situated immediately to the west of Jesmod, 400 acres of open grassland. This is a great place to run, walk the dog, or just to relax and unwind.
