Forest Hall

Forest Hall in North Tyneside is a village named after the Forest Hall. Now it is a small residential suburb of Newcastle.

The local postcode is NE12, and the average age of the residents is 41 years old.

The village, to the south of Killingworth, was developed from the 1960s onwards. Parts of the housing development reside where the original Forest Hall residence existed before demolition.

The East Coast train line, linking London and Edinburgh, runs through the western part of the area. However, the local train station no longer operates. It closed in 1958 and subsequently demolished.

There's a shopping centre, located on Station Road North, with a supermarket, chemist, florists, betting shops, restaurants, takeaways, Greggs and some estate agents.
The local pub is The Flying Scotsman, located on the site of the former train station. The venue takes its name from a train that used to frequent the East Coast mainline. The Flying Scotsman was the first steam locomotive carrying passengers to reach a speed of 100mph.

There are three social clubs in the village, including the Forest Hall Ex-Servicemens institute and the local bingo hall.
Community-wise, the suburb has several centres worthy of note. These include; the NHS Forest Medical Group and medical centre on Station Road, Hedleys College on Station Road for disabled children, and Springfield Community Centre next to the park. There is also a private nursery off Springfield Park next to the community centre.

Springfield Park is the local outdoor space with large areas of lawned grass, paths, a large play area for children, a bowling green and tennis courts.
The village has good road connections to the nearby suburbs and districts of West Moor, Longbenton, Benton, Palmersville, Killingworth, Gosforth and Newcastle city centre.

The village is connected to Newcastle and the coast by a reliable bus network and The Tyne and Wear Metro, a local rail network, with stations at Benton and Palmersville.
Forest Hall has three primary schools; Forest Hall Primary, Ivy Road Primary, and St.Mary's RC Primary. There is no secondary school in the village; the nearest ones are George Stephenson High School in Killingworth and St Marys Catholic School in Gosforth.

Forest Hall has several churches; St Bartholomew's Church, St Andrews Church, St Mary's Church, and Bethesda Gospel Hall.
Dial Cottage, located on the Great Lime Road, is the former home of George Stephenson. He created the first intercity train lines in England and the inventor the famous steam locomotive train called The Rocket.
